Be The Best At Managing Your ClientsManaging Clients

Many accountants know that good customer service is important for their business. They know that it is very important to build a good relationship with their clients. They want to make their clients feel like their friends. However, this is not always as easy as it sounds, especially when you start to really build your business. It can get overwhelming as your business grows.

Here are some tips for managing those relationships as your business grows.

  • Keep a daily calendar of things that need to be done. Many accountants need a daily check list to see that they are accomplishing all that they need to do in a day.
  • Keep a calendar to help you remember important dates. Many accountants like to send out birthday cards (and cards for other special events) for their clients. Keep a separate calendar just to help you remember to send these out. You can check this weekly or monthly, as long as you find a schedule that works best for you.
  • Have an e-mail list for your clients. Send them articles or other items you think they might be interested in. You can also use this as a way to keep in touch with them. Many accountants blog to help inform their readers of anything new going on with your business or anything that might pertain to them. If you think of something that might help them, blog about it and send it to them through your e-mail list.
  • Be sure to follow-up. Send thank you cards to your clients periodically. Send thank you cards (or gifts) with referrals. Word of mouth referrals will really help to grow your business and should be rewarded. If you are unable to send thank you cards and gifts right away, make a list of who needs them. Schedule a time on your daily list and take care of this as soon as possible.

It can be hard to manage your relationships as your practice grows but with a few calendars and an e-mail list, you can keep in contact with your clients. You should keep a few cards and gifts handy so you can send out birthday and thank you cards easily. You might also want to have a few gift cards around to send out as thank you’s for referrals. Staying organized is the key to a smooth running accounting practice.
